I always listen for two things. Laura, of course, and for the unmistakeable guitar stylings and riffs from Summerside  singer songwriter George Antoniak; George can make a guitar cry, so get ready, here it is.

The Trailside Café in Mount Stewart is pleased to welcome Laura Smith and George Antoniak back to the stage on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28.

Laura Smith is a well-known singer songwriter, originally from Ontario but now based in Nova Scotia. She has 4 CDs to her credit and also won two East Coast Music Awards in 1996 and a Gemini Award in 1997. A brilliant songwriter who is well-known for her soulful lyrics, melodious voice and heartfelt performances, Laura always leaves her audiences spellbound. George Antoniak has performed with many different artists over his over 30 year career and has often accompanied Laura Smith. In 2007 he was awarded the Musicians Achievement Award at the ECMAs in recognition of his long time contribution to quality musicianship. An exceptional guitarist, he is also an excellent songwriter in his own right.

GORDIE ON STAGE AT TRAILSIDE

We are thrilled to welcome Gordie back to the stage at Trailside. Join us for an unforgettable evening in an intimate setting with our Grammy winning singer songwriter from Big Pond, Cape Breton.

Gordie is appearing one night only on June 26, capping off a four day long weekend of music.

“I first met Doug Mallory in the early l970’s when he came to Toronto to play guitar in my band, Dr. Music. I was immediately overwhelmed by his magnificent musicianship and his quiet manner. It wasn’t until several months later that I discovered he was also a unique and brilliant singer. He has a way with a lyric like nobody else – his phrasing, pitch and timbre combine to create a sound that can only be Doug. Over the years his talents have developed, matured and expanded to include composition and keyboards.”

“His originals range from the introspective and heartfelt eulogy “Jimbo”, to the lighter and jazzier “Martinique”. The melodic genius in Doug is apparent in “Darah’s Waltz” and “Welcome Home”, while he exposes his vulnerable side with a flashback to childhood in “Bad Kid”. He brings his own personal touch to such oldies and goodies as “Waltzing Matilda” and “Autumn Leaves” thus rounding out a beautifully diverse musical presentation. Roy and Steve return on May 20

Roy Johnstone and Steve Sharratt will perform their new “Cuban Fusion” style of music on Friday, May 20.

The Trailside Café in Mount Stewart is pleased to announce that they will be featuring a variety of well-known East Coast and Canadian singer-songwriters from May until October. 

Dave Gunning will open the 2011 season on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8. Dave just won two 2011 ECMAs —one for Roots/Traditional Solo Recording and the other for Producer of the Year. He is a charismatic performer known for infusing his shows with humourous tales and touching commentary on everyday life. He has toured extensively across Canada and has released eight critically-acclaimed CDs. With his heartfelt lyrics, compelling storytelling and innovative arrangements to his original and traditional songs, Dave Gunning has won the favour of many audiences!
